This Dictionary is based on an earlier one with KEK Rowson and TAL Rees, that was published in 1981; at that time HIV was unknown, and AIDS had not yet been
recognized as a virus disease. The past 15 years have witnessed an enormous increase in our knowledge of viruses and their taxonomic relationships. Anttempt
has been made in the present volume to include all the names of viruses affecting vertebrate species which have been used in English language papers.
